QUESTIONS - Updated Nov. 27, 2009, questions 1 thru 21 added

QUESTION 1: Shouldn't that title word be spelled "Fence" instead of "Fince"?

It depends on what nationality your ear is tuned into! At the 2004 Con, James Stacy (and some attendees!) had difficulty understanding a question posed by a fan because of her accent. The question regarded the structure that corralled some horses in a certain episode scene. All of us, including Mr. Stacy, laughed about the incident. The featured photos on this site are from the scene in question and we decided to use the incident as the theme for this site because it sums up the Con experience in one event: A worldwide collection of fans, lots of laughing together and, of course, James Stacy!

QUESTION 2: How will the 2010 Memphis Con be different than past Cons?

In the past, Lancer Conventions have been formed with that one specific purpose. However, Memphis in 2010 is part of the larger "Gathering of the Guns II" TV Western Reunion AND the Memphis Film Festival, so there will be lots more to do/see on site.

QUESTION 3: How will the 2010 Memphis Con be the same as past Cons?**

Remember the pleasure and surprise you felt when you discovered other Lancer fans online? It's even better when you discover how much you have in common with other fans face-to-face! I've heard the term "sisters separated at birth" more than once. It's like finding family, or at least a very good friend.

Past Cons had some pre-planned events, usually in the evening timeframe. Since this Con is within a larger gathering, one of the pre-planned events may be the best way to "check in" and "check out" other Lancer fans.

Lancer episode viewings, touring the host city, hanging out with online friends and finding new friends is the norm for past Lancer Cons!

QUESTION 4: How did everyone know/find each other?

Successful identification of a Lancer fan occurred many ways. Pre-planned meeting spots, easily identifiable T-shirts, exchanged cell numbers and calls on arrival, name tags supplied by a Con attendee or a visual sighting of The Boys.

QUESTION 5: How did everyone get around for sightseeing?

Touring groups seemed to magically form or were pre-planned. Those that had rental cars volunteered as drivers and others figured out the local transportation venues. Already having an idea about what you would like to see helped a lot. Being able to read a map helped a WHOLE lot - every driver needs a good navigator, after all!

QUESTION 6: What's a "Party Room"?

In the past, it has been a privately rented room or suite where the holder of the room has issued an open invitation to come and have fun talking, watching DVDs, getting to know each other and having drinks, snacks, etc. There was a "knock anytime" invitation that sometimes crowded into the roomholder's bedtime. It was a good idea to avoid post-midnight calling or, at the least, listen at the door for laughter before inviting yourself in!

QUESTION 7: What's the best vehicle to rent?

A Mitsubishi Lancer, what else?????

QUESTION 8: If I am invited to ride along with AJ, what should I expect?

Terror. Sheer terror. An ex-officer of the law, she has . . . let us say . . . a unique sense of the road that is usually amazing to watch. But she's not real good at spotting stop signs and REALLY hard to keep up with in a caravan situation!

QUESTION 9: Has there been drinking (alcohol) or smoking at these gatherings?

Yes. However, there has NOT been nude table dancing, vomiting, groping, inappropriate behavior or old, Vegas-style clouds of smoke hanging from the ceiling, either. People drank and smoked. People didn't drink or smoke and didn't feel uncomfortable. As far as we know, it was never a problem.

QUESTION 10: Did everyone do everything together?

Absolutely not! At past Cons, there were previously planned group activities, plans between established friends and plans made on the fly. They all worked out and everyone saw and did what they wanted. Rental vehicles always had full seats. The drivers have been quite gracious and the passengers very supportive by offering to pay for gas. Online friendships were nurtured in person and new friendships were formed on site.

QUESTION 11: What should I expect if I go out with a group?

Historically, laughter. Lots of it. Also, photographic and video moments that you will cherish. Or not!

BE WARNED: If you happen to be out and about with The Boys, it is fair to say that anything can happen. They get up to all kinds of mischief and can embarrass those with them, although it's never been intentional. They tend to draw attention and invite whistles, curious looks and lots of questions!

QUESTION 12: Just WHO are "The Boys"?

The Boys have been dubbed "The Lancer Convention Mascots" and manage to show up just about everywhere. Because they are cardboard cutouts, they need help getting around and have never had a problem doing just that at past Cons! What happens with The Boys, stays with The Boys - and with the cameras that accompany them. Who knows - you may be the lucky one to find a life-sized Johnny staying in your room for the night!

QUESTION 13:

We're skipping Question 13 like hotels skip Floor 13 in order to nurture the "traveling" frame of mind!

QUESTION 14: What kind of things have attendees brought with them?

Cameras, and interest in adventure and a strong sense of humor. Trivia knowledge (watch episodes before going to a Con!). Because the setting of the 2010 Con is so different and celebrities will be abundant, you may want to be sure to have a Sharpie and paper with you at all times.

QUESTION 15: What happens during a "gift exchange"?

Past Cons have had both gift bags and/or gift exchanges, and they are usually announced will in advance. A cost limit was usually established ($20, maximum) and those participating brought things that represented their hometown/state. Only those that wanted to participate did so.

QUESTION 16: What is a "post card exchange"?

Similar to a "gift exchange". People brought a suggested number of post cards from their state or hometown and traded with others. Another variation was a "magnet exchange".

QUESTION 17: What is a "gift bag"?

Gift bags have been supplied in past Cons where there was a cost to attend the Con, and they were at the discretion of the Con planner. If there was no cost to attend the Con, then there wasn't a gift bag. Please keep in mind that it takes a lot of effort to put together a gift bag, so it's only fair that it be paid for in advance of a Con. Any leftover bags were sold to non-attendees after the Con.

QUESTION 18: Did people make comments during Lancer episode viewings?

It depended on the mood of the room. During some viewings, it was relatively quiet. During others, it became rather raucous! During "Little Darling of the Sierras" it was MANDATORY that you express yourself, and as of the 2nd L.A. Con, if you make it through what was voted "the worst Lancer Episode EVER!", you are rewarded with the privilege of signing The Boys behinds (once our eyeballs healed from being burned by the sight of Murdoch's bare chest)!

QUESTION 19: Were there Lancer episode tests and quizzes?

Yes. Just in case, you may want to bone up on your Lancer minutiae!

QUESTION 20: Should I be upfront about being a "Scott girl"?

Yes. Somebody has to cart the Scott "Boy" around Memphis. And he is always acceptable eye-candy when Johnny is indisposed!

QUESTION 21: What should I wear to this adventure?

Clothes! Really, wear what is comfortable. Keep in mind that walking shoes were well used at past Cons!
